Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Artafax has been in business since 1984.
What is your primary product or service?
We are a contemporary lifestyle/gift store. We have over 200 vendors from the U.S., europe, Japan, Canada, etc.. and feature a wide variety of merchandise of furniture, lighting, tabletop, jewelry office accessories etc.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I used to take several trips to Europe to do music history research and attend auctions for my antique poster business. While in Europe, I began to notice the diversity of contemporary designs that are a part of Europe's everyday life. I began to bring back items in the U.S. to test people's reactions and it was overwhelmingly positive. From there we began to develop Artafax, which was a combination of the old(antique posters) and the new.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Our place is often a one-stop shopping experience. Our customers come to buy items for themselves while simultaneously purchase a gift for someone else.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have 1 location. We do plan to expand and improve our website, which at this time features over 1500 items as well as improving our presence via social networking on Facebook, yelp, google, twitter etc.
