Christian home for children seperated from their parents
Since 1954, Sunshine Acres has been a non-profit home for children who are separated from their parents for many reasons. How long have you been in business?
Since 1954
What is your primary product or service?
To provide a loving, wholesome, Christian home for children who are separated from their parents, and to help them establish long-term relationships with stable parental figures preparing them for success in adult life.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Our founders, Jim & Vera Dingman prayed for 17 years that God would give them a home for children in need. Then in 1953, they acquired this property and started preparing it for licensing. They received their license to care for children in April of 1954 and took their first 2 children shortly thereafter.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are completely unique. We have cared for over 1900 children free of charge since 1954. This has been accomplished without state & federal money, without solicitation or charging families a fee to place their children with us. We are funded 100% via unsolicited private & corporate donations, legacy gifts and our thrift store.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
One location only. No plans to expand to additional locations, however our campus will support our vision of 240 children here some day. That will require 24 children's homes here on our 109 acre property. We currently have 7 homes, supporting 70 children.
